For plugging stripped screw holes i have found that sawing out square strips same size as the round drill holes and planing the corners to make an approimate octagon creates a tighter plug than a round dowel.

Hunter 30 Behind the house...
I use a lathe, but a chisel will do similar to sharpening a pencil.
it is very important to keep the angle that shallow or it won't "stick"

That's an awful lot of little sticks. Mostly I drill out to 3/16 or 1/4 inch.

on a lathe it is as almost fast as drilling a hole and you can get several plugs out of one piece of wood

You must have a 3-jaw chuck.

way to keep at it!

The www. widgetco.com company sells hardwood tapered plugs that look like something that might come in handy here . Good luck.
