Hi,
I am in the beginning stages of installing an AC unit on my Oday39. I plan on installing it under the seating in the main cabin on the starboard side. I was wanted to check to see if any other Oday39 owners have AC and ask how the ductwork is run throughout your boats.
Thank you
Henry

I do not have A.C. as there is little available space. Two options have been suggested.
Under the v berth by cutting out the fiberglass step or in the port cockpit locker with air intake in the starboard quarter berth and the cool air vent into the galley.

I have a 16,000 btu king unit under the starboard seating. It does alright but i need to rework the ducting. There is enough room.

The ducting isn't great, but this is how the former owner did it. It runs to the wet locker and then tees off to a vent in the salon and one in the vberth.

I ended up doing mine almost the same way, except I came out of the locker when going out to the main cabin. I went with a 12000btu so I can run it using a Honda 2000. I am very happy with is so far.

My 16K is in the port cockpit locker, allowing for vents in the saloon (stairway), head and quarter berth with no ducts showing.

How does the 12k cool? My 16k is an old r22 unit and probably only a 10 seer, so its cooling delta is only maybe 20 degrees. I've been thinking of modernizing.

I installed it in October and it was still pretty hot here, and it was worked very well. I thought I might run into issues and maybe have to run ducts to the 2 rear cabins but, from my short experience I have with the unit so far with one big went in the main cabin and a small vent in the v berth. I am very pleased.

Mine came with AC/ heat. The compressor is on a shelf in the starboard lazarette and the unit is inside the wardrobe locker across from the forward head. There are ducts in each room with fans that suck air from the main cabin. I'll post pics in a few days.

Hey Alastair. Do you still have the water heater in the same locker with the a/c? Do you have any pics of your installation? I use a small 5K window unit a/c at the top of the companionway in my 322, just made a custom wooden drop hatch to seal it. It's very effective, but tough to get in and out when it's sitting there!

Hi Mikster. Here are some photos showing the AC/Heating unit in the cockpit locker, the three vents into saloon, head and quarterberth, and the duct to the saloon vent:

I hope this helps.

I had to replace my slider as well, after my crewman put all his weight on it. You'll need to remove two or three sets of screws on the teak runners. Then the old one can slide out and the new one in. Make sure he new one rides free under the cabin top. If Rudy's guys didn’t get the curvature perfectly, the slider will get scratched. This happened to me and I had to get it buffed out. Good luck,
