Does anyone know what the rig tension should be on an Oday 272? Im not positive on the shroud diameter, If anyone has this boat or knows of it, please advise.

On boats this size the tension is by hand. Hand tighten and then one full turn. Keep in mind that too much tension can damage the cabin roof. There are many discussions of this in the archives.
Some people want to set the tension with a Loos gauge. On boats this size not used for serious racing, that is not necessary and can be damaging to cabin top.
The guy who helped me set up my boat was a serious and knowledgeable racer. After we got the mast up he wipped out his loos and set tensions. After he left, I reset to a reasonable feel.
It does not have to be perfect, just tight on the windward side.

sounds easy, but the problem is how do you define "hand tight"?
i moor my boat on the open lake and it does get to rolling pretty good at times. i worry about the stays getting slack and then slapping back tight causing metal fatigue over time.

I suggest that you check the archieves of this site and the Heart of O'Day site and read rigging instuctions from some of the old manual posted thereon.

i also prefer low tech and just sail for the challenge to get from a to b with using just the wind. i have never used a used a gauge and usually tighten the rig so the stays are snug and the mast straight. i do get some slack on the leeward side when sailing in a moderate breeze. i just want to make sure i'm not doing something wrong since the boat spends so much time on the mooring rolling around at times 20-30 degrees.
