O'Day 26 rigging and reefing

Rick,

Do you have a line drawing for your reefing set up? I manually run a line thru the inside and outside grommets and tie off. I have two reefing ties on the main.

Do you have your lines run to the cockpit? I do not and do not have the base plate to attach turning blocks to (at least not yet). I have not rushed that idea because the cabin top does not have much room to attach cleats. If you have cabin top cleats, snap a picture of those too.

First, remember that you do not have to have interior finish to sail. Just any structural parts. Get your boat in the water and pull it out after Thanksgiving to finish.

Second, when putting mast up and if you have a roller furling, remember to lubricate all the blocks.

Now that I think of it, you do not have to all the exterior painted to sail. Use the boat for a few months and then finish. It is too hot :cussing: to continue working anyway...

I am interested in seeing any drawings or pictures of the rigging. One thing that does not make sense on my boat is the foresail sheets run to a block forward of the cockpit, then to a block on a traveler along the side of the cockpit, then forward slightly to the winches. This elimiinates any adjustment with the rear traveler. I guess the rear traveler is only for the larger foresail?

I am with you on completing only to the point of getting her into the water. I am waiting on the primer, then i will complete the painting of the repair areas, then remount the pulpit, rales, stanchions, winches, hatches and ports. Then install the bulkheads and tab them in, then the chainplates. Then do some basic wiring so we can have light and fan.
Btw, I am not going to paint the entire deck, just the repaired areas. I think it will blend ok.

Well, I'm back. On Monday, the winds were strong enough to have to reef. So I got some pictures.

My reefing line runs from a fairlead on the port side of the boom, up through the leech cringle, down to the cheek block that came from O'Day, then forward to a trning block I mounted on the mast, up to the luff cringle, and down to a cleat on the mast. My crew that day was my oldest son, my wife and daughter.

No I don't have the lines run to the cockpit. My son and I were discussing it though, and at the very least, we would have to raise the deck organizer on a block to raise it high enough for the lines to clear the narrow spot between the hand rails and hatch. We decided it would take real planning and mock ups to test it out.

Thanks for the good pictures and description. I saw a 26 with the mast raised about 2 1/2 inches. Thought it was for him to lower the mast toward the stern. Thought about doing that, even bought a piece of Hdpe to do it with. Then I realized all the stays would be wrong length.

I am trying to figure where to put a nicro on cabin top. I cannot find a place where it would not be issue. On forward hatch, I think it would interfer with all the tack I do. In immediate area of mast, I think it might affect structural integrity of area under and near mast.
