Hi all,
Could anyone post a couple of photos showing your main sail reef setup? I have a 192, I know how I think I would like to set it up but would like to see others arrangements. Thanks in advance!

Deleted your duplicate thread on this subject and moved it to Ask All Sailors since reefing is a general sailing subject. You might get replies regarding bigger boats, but the concept of reefing is the same regardless of boat size.

Welcome aboard.

Do you have a Dwyer or Z-Spar rig on the boat? They’re rigged a little differently.

I setup the reef system on my 1988 192 last season with the Z Spar rig.

Hi, I believe it’s a Dwyer. I think I’m going to run the line from a pad eye on the stbd side of the boom, through the aft reef cringle, through a block on the port side and run forward to a cleat. Seems pretty simple. Similar to the attached photo.

Yup, that’s the way to do it. Do you have an adjustable topping lift set up as well? That helps with reefing (and putting some shape into the sail).

You also can make some home brewed lazy jacks too, that helps with reefing as well.

I don’t have an adjustable topping lift, but the boat did come with lazy jacks!

To make the topping lift adjustable, I have it (1/8” dyneema) spliced around the backstay pin at the top of the mast with a tiny micro block (Harken #404) on the other end about 1’ above the boom when it’s at a right angle to the mast. Then run a second line (5/32” Dinghy Pro) from the end of the boom, through the micro block, back to the end of the boom, and forwards to the mast. That gives you a purchase and having it at the mast means I have my reef line, lazy jacks, and topping lift all in one spot.

This may be easier on the Z Spar boom because everything is internal and the boom had 2 built in sheaves on the outboard end.

Purple is the outhaul, orange is the reef, and red is the topping lift. Reef and outhaul are cleated by the mast.
