congratulations

Mine is a '76 and I love it. The previous owner made new cushions for mine. I don't think Rudy (you've heard about Rudy right? If you look under resources at top of page then sailing sites you 'll see The O'Day site. That's Rudy he worked for O'Day and has parts for YOUR boat.) I don't think he does cushions. You could make a cardboard template and take it to an upolstry shop. Tell them how think you want and pick some material. Shouldn't be that expensive. Enjoy the boat. Lots of 25 owners around if you have questions. Mike Whalen Knoxville, TN

Good luck

A number of us have looked for replacements .There are basically two components. The first is the foam itself. The foam comes in a great variety of densities and heights. If your are starting from scratch you can make the cushions thicker and denser than the way they came. The cost of the foam varies quite a bit . The second part is the covering itself. There are two differant ways the cover can be sewn.I chose to do a "box" with a contrasting stripe. Now you have to pick out the type of fabric. We used Sunbrella which is a brand that is made to be outside.Yes the cushion are for inside but sometimes people drag them out because they are nice and firm. You don't neccesarily need an outdoor fabric. You might want to get quotes from an auto upholsterer and local seamstresses. You are in a good place as many people are slow this time of year. We had a guy we met online do ours .He lives in Kansas .We shipped patterns and checks back and forth. We paid 700 to have our whole interior redone. This is without new foam.

The cheap way out!

I was restoring my O22 and an upholstery place wanted $1800 for new cushions. So I went to Costco and purchased four navy blue camping mattresses for $26 each. Next take some cardboard and make the pattern with about an inch overlap. Remove the foam from the cushions and trace the pattern onto the cushions. Then use a turkey cutter (with the moving blades) to cut each foam piece. Reinsert the foam, sew up the loose end and make sure that it is underneath and against the hull. My cushions look 10 times better than any cushions I have ever seen. I keep the vynl side up. One note: When you cut the portion of the cushions against the hull, you must cut it at 45 degree angle away from the trace lines because the foam needs to sit tight against the hull. If you fail to do this, it will look ok, but not perfect. Give it a try, it'll only cost $104 and a little bit of work... I think my 22 looks mint. Try the non-marine option

When pricing new cushions for my Oday 23 (which I still haven't bought after 8 years of ownership), I found that the marine upholsterer specialists charged a lot more than the local landlubber guys. Try taking your cushions to a plain old local upholsterer; I bet they come in about 20% less than the marine guy.

Completely new upholstery for Oday 28

My project Oday 28 came without any upholstery. We made patterns of all the cushions we would need using contractor paper purchased at Lowe's. Found a Fabric & Foam place who advised me further on how to measure at spots where the foam contacts the hull for the correct angles, then they furnished me with good quality firm foam, and total price for the foam including their cutting to my specs was $647. Found the fabric we wanted, needed 18 yards to cover tops and sides. Cost was $14.95 a yard. Needed additional 7 yards of a vinylized "open weave" cloth for the bottoms at $10 per yard. The upholsterer has done boats, cars, furniture and has been in the business for 35 years, was highly recommended, is charging $400 for the labor. Total cost just under $1,500 including everything. Total of 10 pieces, V berths (2), insert between v berths (1), settee berths (2), Backrests above settee berths (2), small cushions mounted on each side of bulkhead in salon (2) and quarter berth (1) My rehab job on the boat has turned out just beautiful. Wanted the upholstery to go with the good job so spent more for this item than we had expected when we started out.
