Point Lookout
I sail out of Point Lookout (Town of Hempstead East Marina) and there really is no place to anchor or stay overnight. Jones Inlet is one of the worst inlets on the east coast and is in dire need of dredging. There are quite a few fishing boats that come out of Freeport as well as Point Lookout, so things get pretty rough. There are a few locations near the Short Beach Coast Guard Station that you could anchor near, but there is really not much to do or see. If you are willing to go a little further, Fire Island is where you should plan a trip to. Here you will find several marinas, as well as some anchoring spots. Here as well it could get a little rough as the ferries and water taxis come and go all night. I would plan on trying to make a reservation at one of the State marinas. Fire Island has plenty to do and see.
