Walt, how could you fly a black monstrosity like that when it blocks the sun from the panel. :)

As long as I am "aware" of the partial shading on the panel, it makes it no problem.

The other side of the coin.

I was racing in Texas this winter and the boat owner had bought this HUGE asym. He told the sailmaker to make it as 'big as would fit'. Texas sized I guess. It basically is a 180% and flew a few inches above the water. It was actually impossible to see through or around from anywhere on the boat. I told him I'd never race with that thing again.

That's an Alberta sized sail. Heck, it doesn't even go to the tack, it could have been a foot longer.

Ouch!!

I suppose we could agree on this .. the deck sweeper blind spot is much safer than someone passed out drunk with an auto pilot locked in.
.... I believe the autopilot has every chance to be as "unsafe" or used irresponsibly as does the deck sweeper.....possibly even more so, and for the same reason. but keep a sharp lookout and the issue goes away....

most of us are responsible boaters most of the time, but not all of us are responsible boaters all the time.... I think if honesty was a matter of life or death, I think everyone would have their own story of how they do something stupid and irresponsible from time to time.... I know a lot of people will disagree, but just because no one notices doesnt mean it didnt happen:biggrin:...

He was just seining for bass, Jackdaw. I've seen a few boats on Galveston Bay that were picking up shrimp in their spins. Heck, I've been on one that was throwing a rooster tail from the pole!!!! NOT my boat. The Admiral would make me walk the plank if I did that.
