Non-skid to smooth gel coat repair help?

First post...great forum...
Greetings, our recently purchased sailboat has some crazing on both the starboard and port cockpit seating area that centers on the non-skid and moves into the smooth gel coat areas. It appears that a large object (or person) was subjected to the laws of gravity to cause this issue. My plan is to run a couple of stringers on the underside of the seats to add a little stability in hopes to prevent furture issues, BUT how do I make the repair transition from the non-skid to the smooth gel coat. I have done numerous gel coat only crazing repairs, but I am not sure how to approach this issue with the non-skid being the epicenter of the crazing.

Take a look at Kiwi Grip for the non-skid. You can purchase this by the quart (more than enough for the entire cockpit.

If you decide to use this stuff, I suggest that you make the finish rather agressive (double roll). Nice stuff and reasonable price.

Ok, I'll check it out....to prep would I sand all of the older texture down to smooth?

HC: I do not think that sanding it smooth is required. You can probably find the instructions before you purchase the material.

i've used kiwi grip. no need for sanding. it's a good product; but keep in mind it won't replicate your diamond pattern non skid. it rolls on with a stippled effect.
