PVC pipe with pipe wrap
Jim,I rewired my 222 last year. I bought two sections of PVC pipe (1.5 inch diameter I think) and covered them both with pipe wrap. I connected the pipe wrap to the PVC with wire ties. I had to feed the PVC from each end rather than connect them and then feed them. This is because there is a bolt that goes through the mast at the spreaders, and so you had to work around that point. I wedged one of the PVC pieces through at that point (bow side of the spreader bolt) and had a PVC connector on the other end into which I fed the wedged piece. Note it might be easier to remove the bolt, but it didn't take long to work the PVC around the bolt. Then, I reran the wire for the running light inside the PVC (note I had to drill a hole in the PVC at that point where the running light on the mast is located) and also added a coaxial antenna. I also added a feeder line to make it easier to run additional cables in the future. The beauty of the PVC is that the wires don't catch on any of the screws or rivets that go into the mast. In addition, the pipe wrap serves as sound insulation to reduce noise from wire slap in addition to removing any lateral movement of the PVC. Some people attach wire ties to the cables to remove any cable movement. That could work inside the PVC as well if you experience some cable movement. I haven't had any problem however.Good luck.Dave
