I'm considering the installation of a noise reduction kit on my 1991 C-30 with a 25XP. I'm skeptical about the effectiveness due to the large space it sits in. Would I have to insulate the lower galley area away from the engine? Has anyone out there done this on a C-30? Premature thanks.

Yes! Yes! Been there, done that!

Funny you should ask. I have a Cat 30 with a 5411. A 2 cylinder. Kinda like havin a "Harley" down below! I went to an RV shop. Found a bunch of Sound Proofing Kits. It was a challenge to cut the material correctly, but after applying the spray adhesive and installing them it's not hard. It made a big difference on board. Don't plan on real quiet time. But you will cut the noise a bunch. But every little sound counts! Remember if you don't like the sound, pull up the sails! For me it was like throwing a big fur coat over a John Deere tractor! It does keep the noise down and also insulates the engine compartment. Just DO IT!

Also Done That

I used the noise insulation sold by West Marine on my C-30 with the same engine as yours. I was not that pleased with the results. While it did help out some, I was hoping for more. I insulated under the galley area and all three sides where the access doors are located. Actually, insulating the doors themselves and making the insulation fairly tight fitting provided the best noise reduction in my opinion. Bottom line, you will notice a bit of a reduction, but not a lot. So, if your expectations aren't that high, it's worth doing. But, don't expect it to be 1/2 as loud as it currently is, or you'll be sorely disappointed. Good luck!
