What are your thoughts regarding the Sailrite sail kits? How difficult are these kits to make? What kind of sailing performance should be expected?Jay T.
At least that's my plan. I picked up the Anchor Riding sail kit from Sailrite (see related link below) to get an idea of the process - will let you know if I ever get around to it. Just a suggestion; you might have considerably more sail-making experience than I!Trevor
Sailrite's kit seems very overpriced. The expense you're avoiding is the assembly which can be done overseas very cheap. I had sails made overseas for less than the cost of the sailrite kit and they are great. I'm sure they are better than anything I could sew.
Do it for the experience and for the ability to improve and repair your own sails. But don't do it just to save a few bucks. My Sailrite bimini saved me a LOT of money but it was a LOT of work. Imagine how much more time and effort for a sail! Have you ever wrestled that much cloth through a sewing machine? I have, I do my own repairs.
