Is there away to delete this tread? I'd like to not clutter the forum
Why do you consider it clutter? Seems like an interesting thread to me, in my opinion...

Hey, if you are getting responses, it's a good thing! Lord knows we need some fresh voices in here. Nobody is complaining about your thread, we're rather enjoying it. If you have new questions, you should just start new threads. Nobody is going to put a limit on your thread count!

That's unusual. Most forums people get pissy if you do that. I greatly appreciate it as I can also go back to a prior thread if I need info from it

We are an unusual group... One I frankly find quite refreshing in the world of forums....

What I do know about the boat.

The engine is a Perkins 4107 Diesel Inboard. Donor says it starts up. Donor states they've owned the boat since 1978 and sailed it between Cape Joy, NJ and Boston, and also used it as a live about for a number of months. They have the sails, which they say have some cosmetic damage but are still functional. They are including life jackets, a boatswain's chair, and other miscellaneous items.

HOWEVER if it is not in sailing and ruin g condition as is stated I recieve a full refund.

Looks like the last person's but was canceled by the seller. So it just dropped $25. Even better

It is a nice filter.

On a boat, if the filter is located in the space with the engine, the CG wants it to have a metal shield.

The shield is to delay the melting of the plastic bowl holding the fuel for a few seconds.

Not an issue outside the engine compartment. Some owners follow the recommendation, others do not.

The vacuum gauge is an add on to indicate when the filter is clogged and needs changing.

Just as well. Another unnecessary expenditure, IMHO:what:. All you have to do is change-out your regular (stock) filters periodically. A vacuum gage to tell you when is not unnecessary. I imagine that Westerbeke came with filters-one primary (30 microns) and one secondary (2 microns)? Some people use the 2 micron at both the primary and secondary positions & change at the primary once a year. I use the 30 at the primary and the 2 at the secondary. I change out the primary after about 300 hr. The 2 micron secondary approximately yearly. Use only clean diesel, maybe treat it against microbial/algal growth. You could use that money toward a (used) matched-set of snatch blocks, or a hand-held VHF for the cockpit, etc.

Have a slip for it? Better check on slip availability. Small boat slips are in high relative demand.

Sellers ad:

This boat needs a new home; moorage is no longer available. With a little cleaning and maintenance it will be ready for blue water sailing. It has a Honda 10 horse engine that fits into a well aft of the rudder. This is a great Puget Sound boat for year around sailing.

Not sure why you say that. I suspect the sailing from December thru February will be a chilling experience. The V-Berth has no insulation and even with a 0 degree winter bag you will likely find the morning cold and uncomfortable.

If you are going to sail in the winter here in the Pacific NW you will need to have a good safe heater in the boat. Note at a dock, with AC power you can get an electric heater to keep the boat about 60 degrees. Of course when you sail and anchor out you need something to heat the boat.
