Just visited the Beneteau website and looked at some of their new sailboats.

You really have to laugh at some of the photo depictions of their suggested skipper and crew including the nice decorative touches down below.

I see some really hot women at the helm of +50' vessels with maybe another guy on the lookout for a cool cafe to dock beside...also look for their wine glasses.

More really tall (full) glasses of wine + cheese platters down below in the galley. (Is there a roast in the oven too?)

Table top bouquets of flowers or ceramic sculptures...maybe even a book on past sailing adventures..."Dead Calm" or "Fatal Storm".

Flat water...everywhere (clean clear water too).

No waves...anywhere not a ripple (Honey what's a white cap...is that a new drink?).

No cloudy skies or foul weather (or foul weather gear hanging up) to dampen the spirits of possible future sailors.

And finally...no spider or bird shit on the decks...

If they only knew...

Wow. I like the Sense 50's coral and starfish motif.
I use peel and stick Velcro from the dollar store to keep my things from sliding around too.
I am fond of the one with the chocolate brown hull!

Beneteau's are nothing but SEXY!

Can't believe how sexy the Beneteau line has become... Their power boats aren't too bad either!

The only knock I have is they STILL have very limited stowage..

Here on L Ontario we have no spiders, no birds, the sea is always flat and winds are steady at 10 kts with temps around 80 F.

I'll think miss the spiders in the winter. I'll have to find something else to flick.

Geez Duc, I don't know where you sail, but our trips ALWAYS look like those in the glossies. ;^)

All the spinnaker shots feature pretty hot lady (IMHO) driving, full class of wine in hand! ;^)

Maybe I've just been lucky!

I dunno, Jack- butter from a PLASTIC tub? How gauche!

This thread made me go look to see if I still have a Jenneau brochure from some years ago. Must have been the Europen version: the ladies were topless. No, I couldn't find it .

I recently received some brochures from benneteau. If you look at the photos in the brochure and compare them to the ones of the website, you can see that the photos where photoshopped. Sail cover colors are changed, dirt on the hull is cleaned, etc.

You're killing me Ron! Funny I almost left that pix out because of the tub. But we're have bad butter on the boat before. The tub is a compromise. Every thing else was top shelf though.

I've got a bunch on old Euro Beneteau glossies in PDF format. Yep in them most of the chicks were topless. Notably in the smaller, youth oriented boats.

Who was the high end French manufacturer who used to include a set of china and silverware and some fitted (to the storage bins) luggage cases?? Dufour?? Or Henri Wauquiez ? or ?? I remember going aboard one in Houston back in the mid 80's and being amazed at the gold lavatory fixtures and beautiful china with logo . Civilized !

Duc,

Back to your original question...

I went back to look at bene glossies over the years. I have them back to the 70s. It's clear that they try and portray sailing in a fun, sexy, and casual light. Even on the First boats. Only the occasional pic of a racing crew in rugged conditions. Normally it's a couple (or two couples) in ideal conditions.

Regarding the interior trappings, they know that statistically speaking, it's a man who wants the boat, and a woman that had to agree to open the wallet. Part of that pitch has always been the 'it's a vacation home' story, to they play to that. It's not the case in every situation, (certainly not in mine) but a high enough percentage that it make the positioning work.

In one of the pics I the 80ish First 27 pamphlet I have, it shows a crusty French dude, beard and pipe, driving thru some big chop, his woman right next to him. Both are head to toe in foulies. Gotta love a woman that likes that picture!
