Jim - image size

You can now upload any size image so long as you have the patience to wait for the upload. It _does_ cost us more, over time, if folks upload huge files. But regardless, they are resized to about 50Kb (full size) and 5Kb (thumbnail) once received.

Peter - Firefox info

I also use firefox and my thumbnails weren't loadimg well today. Two tips: clear the cache (in Preferences under Privacy) and on posts with many photos, you might have to load the page twice. I don't seem to have the same problem on IE. FF may limit the number of connections per reload, causing some images not to load. I'll look into that.

Fred - re Table on a Rock

Fred - well that answers my nagging question - "were were all the powerboaters?" cuz every time I've been there that's what there was. Let me tell you about what we saw going in there. Once you clear the narrow pass with the lodge you putz in and pass an island to stbd. That spot *apparently* is good for warm water swimming and it's probably fairly fresh water. With all that snowmelt runoff I wonder. However, between the island and the mainland on the stbd side there is a drying rock. When we went past there was a guy sitting on the rock in a folding chair and in front of him there was a card table set up. He also had a large umbrella - like golfers use, and there was a film crew taking a picture. The rock was just awash and the water was flat (until I went by). Anyway, it was interesting. One doesn't want to hug that shore too closely!

And John that reminds me.

Speaking of flat rock, check this out. I took this on day two just before we pulled up the hook to anchor in front of the falls. The boat is 'WandererBird'. She is on her maiden voyage. She is owned by the NICEST folks. (From New York) The boat is a 65 foot Monk design. She was built in Victoria. That is the owners' son standing on the bulbous bow. No, she's not aground. I gave a copy of the picture to a crew member. The owner then came over that evening and personally invited us over for cocktails. Then I got the guided tour. (In the non-personal places) That boat was a lifetime dream for the owner. I could right a book about her and I was only aboard for an hour or so. The cost is EIGHT figures, EASY. Never forget it. Pure Art. She's been in all the 'big boat' magazines.

How Did He Do That???

Fred - Oooops! Either there is a really good fall-of or he must have the bow on the bottom. Was it the latter? Maybe he wasn't watching his little red boat on the computer chart? Oh, and after reading my last post I realize I should have said the island and drying rock is to port as one enters vice to stbd.

The Rest of the Story!!!

Thanks Fred! Don't know why I didn't see everything the first time. Must be late, I guess. Let's see if this picture of the Seattle Boat Show works. If it does, note that the sailboats are in the very far corner - you can see something that looks like sails - maybe.

Great Phil

Curious, what kind of software are you using to re-size the images. I assume you are taking in, any size, re-size, then make the thumbnail??? Very nice! Jim S/V Java

To Paul and Jim

Paul -- if I could ask you to try it one more time, and don't abort the upload if you get a broken image. I may be able to diagnose any problem more easily if i have an image (or lack of one) to look at. Thanks! Jim -- this is just good 'ol php 4.x. I had to figure out a way to jump from my usual scripting software to php and back agian, but once that was solved it handles re-sizing in both pixels and Kb without any problem. Maximum file size seems to be about 50Kb for the large image, 6Kb for the thumbnail. Smaller for smaller pix.

To Phil and John Nantz

Phil, again, great feature. John, If you log into this site and then tell it to keep you logged on, (Your cookies have to be on too) then you will be shown an 'edit/delete' choice added next to 'print thread'. (for the stuff YOU write) Then you can proof read all your old stuff and edit it too. For me, it's an even better feature than these new thumbnails. Something to do with being educated in the South Kitsap school system and never learning how to spell,,,,,:)

Trying Again

I'll try this again without aborting the conversion. Editted text: I tried again, and dind't abort the process. After it tried to create the thumbnail I got the red "X" box again. I said don't abort and returned to a photo by Pat McGurin (sp?). My reply did not show up in the main reply column (even refreshed) unless I scrolled down to an existing reply and clicked on the original post link. Hmmm! Phil, I can email the .jpeg to you to take a look at it and try it out, if you want. Let me know the address to send it to.

Fred (and Phil) re "Logged In"

Thanks for the info Fred. I've never seen an "edit" with this new format where as on the old format I did. I went back to see if there was any place to "log in" and I couldn't find any. As for cookies, my computer is accepting them so I regularly delete them and also and all the Temporary Internet Files. With regard to the picture I recently posted, the old requirement was for the picture file to be on the C drive and have a file name of maximum x-number of letters with no spaces. My original file name was not on the C drive but I had to drill down to get to it. It also had three words in the name. The file that was finally accepted was renamed like the old syntax requirements. The thumbnail is a very nice feature though.

John, see the banner across the top of the page?

You know, the red and yellow thing that says 'Shared Forums'. Look down about 3 lines at left. There is the log-in. Go for it.
