I am looking for outboard motor , my old one was stolen while in storage in Bradenton Fl.
Do I need long shaft or can I use a short shaft outboard for Hunter 240? If I'd use trolling electric motor how powerfull it must be ?
Thank you for help

Standard outboard motor engine size are 4 - 10 hp and post #10 in the thread below recommends 25 inch shaft for his Hunter 240 in South Florida.

As a former and also the top selling dealer for this boat per Hunter, the highest rpm rated for the transom is 10 hp or the 9.9 engines. Generally you would need an 8 hp to get electric start but the engine is also a 9.9 depending on mfg as the carbureation has been increased for a higher hp rating. On a lake, a 5-6 hp is fine.
As for shaft length, never even think of a short or 15 inch shaft. You can get by with a 20 inch shaft but for coastal areas, suggest a 25 inch shaft due to wave action.

Batteries add weight. How far you go also depends on batteries. Also it depends where you want to sail? For coastal sailing I like my outboard but of course you could sail back
