I am looking for a completely new instrument system. My old boat has a exterior panel above the hatch that had five instruments in it. None work anymore. The transducers are still in the hull. My most recent plan was to install Raytheon's ST-60 series instruments all new including transducers. After reading the "Wind Instruments" forum I thought there might be some good suggestions. Any comments?

Bill: I also was looking for new instruments after the last one finally failed (15 years). I am replacing Navico 200 instruments. I had read an article in Practical Sailor and contacted a couple of Marine Electronics companies that sell most of the major brands and the Nexus units turned out to be highly recommended. These units have just about anything and everything that you would ever want. The Nexus 3000 System comes with a Compass, Wind, Depth, Speed etc. It is an integrated system with a CPU. You can also get a smaller system (Nexus 2000) that gives up a couple of features for less money. You should do your own evaluation, but it is a SYSTEM that is worth considering. www.bruntonmarine.com One of the advantages to this system is that you can have a single or multiple displays and they are daisy chained together. This allows you to have a single wire running up the pedestal or to your console. You may also have a display down below with an anchor watch or what ever features you want in addition to the ones in the cockpit.

Nexus system

Last year I installed the Nexus System 1000 replacing my ancient instruments. It is GREAT. I researched all the brands and Nexus was rated tops and also was the best price! I don't have the wind instrument, but can easily add it later. It shows depth and speed/log on one screen and you can scroll through other features - temp, time... and I have it interfaced with my nav-mounted GPS so it acts as a repeater showing all the GPS data. I recommend it highly!!

nexus, my choice

NEXUS seemed the most user friendly. I am in the process of reading the manuals prior to installing them. They have an awsome array of functions.
