New Instruments

Hunter 28.5 Louisville
My '86 Hunter 28.5 has only basic instruments (speed and depth), both of which are long overdue for a replacement. While I am at it, I would like to go ahead and add a wind instrument as well.
Any thoughts/recommendations on:
1) Wired vs. Wireless (I'd like to avoid dropping the mast if possible)
2) Instrument package vs. putting different pieces together?

I'd also love any thoughts/experiences folks have had making these toys even more fun by integrating them with technology (iPad or iPhone).

Thanks for the discussion.

B&G, Lowrance, and Simrad are owned by the same company and their gear inter-operates VERY well. Get a Lowrance Gofree and plug it in; now you are wireless via your ipad.

Sweet ! And all well established OEMs.
I'm an IT guy, have a masters, but rapid advances in technology is a 2 edged sword. In the back of my mind, I always wonder about the lifespan of current tech. I tend to shy away from bleeding edge stuff and go with mainstream, firmware upgradeable equipment.
Still gotta climb or drop the mast ;(
