Dan: Binnacle

Dan, That looks great! Maybe you could send the plans along to Hunter and they could fabricate them as an option? Does interfere with the table or moving around the cockpit at all?

Binnacle

Does not interfere with the table or moving around the cockpit. In fact, I would argue that it is less of an obstruction than that tall thing Hunter is delivering these days. I did add a brace that is u-shapped that braces down to the top rail of the table support. It is so strong that I can stand on top of the binnacle (not that I recommend doing so). The best part is that it puts the radar/chartplotter pod forward while still allowing it to be fairly low and more vertical for easy viewing while at the wheel or even seated. I may have some plans someplace, but this isn't rocket science. Hunter just hasn't thought the installation of optional gear through very well. Dan Jonas (S/V Feije II)

33 instrument mounting

Andy, we had the same problem on our 356, but used the standard hoop-we had Hunter not install the upper instruments, and used a navpod for the raymarine radar/chartplotter display and the two guages. worked out well, and didn't require any custom bending. Assuming you bought your boat from Seacoast Marine, they know what we did. BTW, where will you be in salem? we're in Hawthorne cove, look forward to seeing you on the water. Chuck, two yes's. We bought our H33 from Seacoast Marine. It'll be delivered on June 6th. We hoped to get it a little earlier but it has not left Florida yet. We're also in Hawthorne Cove Marina. We're just waiting for a mooring assignment. Nice to hear from you and we'll hook up once we're in...I'd like to see how you installed your ChartPlotter/Radar equipment.

Great! HCM is a great marina, excellent people-work keeps me off the water a lot, but stop by anytime-we're slip 5, right down the AB ramp! Email me via the site with a way to reach you (you go to the home page, owner directory, search on wayne, and send the email). we should talk before you take delivery. Chuck

Choosing interior cushion material/color

We just saw our new H33, sitting in the yard. We ordered the blue fabric for the interior cushions. After looking at the material, decided we did not like the look of it. I kinda like the look of the tan fabric material that was in the model boat at the Jack London Square (Pacific Sail Expo) show. Now my wife thinks the simulated leather might be good. Only two choices - blue and tan. We like the tan, but someone said that maybe people with suntan lotion, etc., may discolor the material ovaer time. Has anyone seen either color in the simulated leather? What do you think of the colors? Thanks, Michael

Re: Cushion Colors

While we have not received our boat yet (multiple weeks of delay shipping from FLA) we choose the blue color scheme to hide dirt/suntan oil marks. I would be concerned about getting leather(-like) materials too wet.

I hope you enjoy your new Hunter 33 - ours is lovely, and sails like a dream on SF bay. Two things I suggest: make sure you don't let them put you off if your engine has what we were told is "the Hunter squeal". Ours is between 12 & 18 RPMs, we were told it's not a problem, and it would eventually go away. The boat has been used every weekend since it was commissioned [approx 2.5 months], and the squeal is still there. Also, we discovered only this week that there is nothing to hold the anchor pin on the boat after it's pulled out, and no place to store it while you're achored out. Other than that, we love the boat, the sail shape, the speed, the solidness regardless of how hard we heel [we were in 30 knot winds yesterday under the Golden Gate bridge and we were truckin'!]. It's more boat than we realized when we bought it, and we love it.

New H33 (on SF Bay)

Elaine, I used to sail on SF bay and miss the wind, but enjoy the warmth here in central calif. What size engine did you get, that has the squeal? And, what RPM do you run it at? Any idea of fuel usage? I can probably think of many more questions... Michael

Elaine, we had the same issue with the anchor pin, just add a small lanyard and secure it to the bow roller. as to the "squeal", the 356's don't have it-must be a new feature :)

Yanmar

Hi, Michael. I will probably get this answer wrong - I should refer you to my husband. It is, I believe, a Yanmar 27 [23?]. The squeal begins at about 1500, continues up through about 1800 RPMs. On the way down it is at about 1600 RPMs. As for fuel usage, the boat goes out every weekend, and has been in charter for 2 months. We checked the fuel level on Wednesday when we took it out ourselves, and it still had at least three quarters of a tank. We've been told it uses very little. We don't have to motor long to get from the end of Richardson's Bay out into the open waters. Where are you in central CA? You may be our neighbor - we live in Manteca. We like going to Sausalito to get out of the heat! We love the new 33. We had it in 30 knots of wind in the "slot" on Wednesday. She is so stable! Elaine

anchor lanyard

Yep, we're trying to get that done now. I guess I thought the dealer should have taken care of it - it took us until we used to anchor to even realize that we needed something.

What did they do to fix the squeal

Pat: Has the dealer fixed the squeal, yet? If so, do you know what they did? I'd like to share that with my dealer so they can take care of ours. Thanks. Elaine

Yanmar 27

To all new Hunter 33 owners- Check your engine and documentation carefully if you ordered the 27Hp option (as we did). You may be in for a pleasant surprise - Yanmar has released a new series of engines called "YM". They are higher (29)Hp, more fuel efficient and lower emissions. Our boat #128 has one, so I suspect any hull after that will as well. Happy motoring when you're not sailing, Barry Bear Necessity

I was told that my boat would be delivered with the 29hp engine as well.

Pat Finnegan - May I ask you a question?

Pat - I have the same engine squeal that you say your dealer is taking care of. Can I talk to you about it and what your dealer is doing? What's your email address? Elaine eka@aol.com

Michael - central CA

Ah, that kind of central CA! It is beautiful there, for sure. I guess I didn't realize there was less wind off that coast. Enjoy.

Life Lines and Turning Blocks

Does any one else have 2 different sized life lines on their 33? I noticed that the 2 boats at my dealer (one is mine)have a larger line on top, and a thinner line underneath. How about the turning blocks at the mast base - one came with Lewmar blocks (10mm size?) that are good for up to 3/8" line, and one with Lewmars (12mm?) that are for up to 7/16" line. Doesn't sound like much, but it's definitely noticeable, and the 10's do look undersized.

Commissioning time

Our 33 finally arrived at the dealer late last week. The weather forecast is pretty lousy this week here in New England that should pretty much prevent bottom painting tasks. I'm trying to believe that they will still be able to deliver in two weeks. Any idea how long it normally takes to commission a new boat? BTW we added Radar and one other electrical component to their list of things to do for us.
