So much stuff, so little space.
I am now welding my new davits and before long will install them. Ihave to decide what goes where on the rear rail. I have 4 items to mount on the rail. A BBQ grill, a 3.5 mercury outboard, a horseshoe buoy and a life sling pack. I have removed all items and after securing the davits, I need to remount them however do I want my inflatable to rub against a stainless, square BBQ grill and an outboard?? I am thinking of moving the life sling and horseshoe to the rear so if the dinghy is pulled hard in, it will rub on these soft items. I can extend the rails with additional tubing to accommodate the outboard to port (since my radar pole/outboard crane is there) and BBQ to starboard. Am I on the right path??
Also I am concerned about access to the ladder with the dink up. I am planning to explore the possibility of making a folding ladder with built in platform (as shown in the owners mods page).it may not be feasible with the dink up to operate!
Ideas and thoughts? Let me have them.

We moved our lifesling forward to the pushpit/lifeline junction. Same with the BBQ. Our ladder won't deploy with the dingy up tight. Blue cover on Stbd is 2 6# propane cans.

We recently put davits on our 37c. Still need to install the top spacer bar and level it out with straps. We have our life sling and propane tanks on starboard side as you can see in the pic. We'll have the grill on port side. Motor stays on the dinghy. Expect to use the the ladder when dinghy is in water. That was never an issue on previous boats.

Bill, what weight/horsepower motor can you safely leave on the dinghy? I suppose the type of dinghy would be a factor, OK on a RIB but not on my Avon inflatable.

Kato rates their davits at 300# static load. (each,I think) I added kato supplied transom braces and JSI supplied coated wire braces forward to the toe rail. Both to support the pushpit.
I have a 9.8 Nissan 2 cycle at about 55-60 #. My rib is Achilles 240 LX at about 90#. Just got the Kato stabilizer bar, still messing with lashing the dingy to minimize swinging.

Years ago, we had St Croix davits on our O/I 41. Carried an 11 foot plywood floor inflatable dingy at 100# + with a suzuki 15 another 100#. (had 2 dogs then) Carried it 2000 miles no problems. .

Looks good Bill. All set for the trip north. Problem for me is that would add $500 to my slip fee.

Davits fold in if we go to a marina and it becomes an issue. We just remove the top spacer bar and fold the davits in. That's one reason why we went with Kato instead of Garhauer davits. We don't plan on spending a lot of time in marinas, but just in case we wanted the flexibility of folding the davits.

All you need to do is spend a bazillion dollars on waterfront property, insurance and flood insurance, then you can keep a boat of 60+ feet in your back yard.

New davits

Thanks for your pictures. Now for the pulley system. I am using " boom vang" as terminology in my search for the block and tackle system. Also it is almost cheaper to buy the vang that to hunt for the indidual parts as I find no savings in buying it piece meal.

Is 3/8 line o.k. Or do I need 7/16. I feel 1/4 may be to thin and uncomfortable on the hands. Also is 35ft enough line for a 4/1 system

Looking at Gerhauer systems, I don't find a system just for the davits. I am leaning towards 30UAG 4/1 boom vang but feel I may need an adjustable cam cleat so that I can cleat /uncleat the line properly without too much waving of the line.

I found a series 50 vang on eBay that has the adjustable cleat but it is spin tech and I am not familiar with the brand.

Thanks for your input.

I bought 6:1 for the motor end of the dingy. Works well and I'm glad I spent the extra money. Came with 60' if line. Garhauer and Kato offer cam cleats mounted on the davit. Also works well. Not sure how a vang or main sheet with cam cleat on the blocks would be to release if you two block it.

Line diameter is a personal thing. No one "needs " 7/16 for strength, the dingy and motor can't possibly be much over 200#. Length would be a function of purchase and davit height.

In this pic you can see where the cam cleats are.

thoughts... If you are planning on using your dinghy every day, get a bigger outboard, at least a 9.9hp. We cursed our dinghy from day one because it was way underpowered with it's 4hp. Remember, this is going to be your car. Just a quick example, in Georgetown, Exumas, if you want to go in town and don't feel like moving your boat, the ride is around 1.5 miles. With a 4 hp it takes 15minutes, with a 9.9hp it takes only 2 minutes. Now add a 15knots of wind on the nose, you're gonna need some spare cloths for sure....

Davits update

Thanks for the advise Mathurin. I picked up a 4 year old mercury 3.5 with 0 hours for 300 so I could not pass it up. Owner had it in his garage and never used it. I agree that if you want to get anywhere you need a 9hp and I am on the look out for one now. I am trying out the davits this week end on the boat. I had them welded late yesterday and I need to install them to measure and fabricate the two braces that will carry the solar panels. Here are some pictures.
I made a mock up of what I wanted with 1" electrical conduit. My fabricator used 1 1/4 aluminum tubing (same as used in arches and towers) and made all my curves. I then used his shop to cut and assemble the whole thing and he welded every thing last night. They are a big outfit and have little time to do small stuff but allowed me to hang around and use his shop and tools when not too busy.(beer and pizza goes a long way)

Dry Run

I installed the davits this morning to see how they would fit. I made then so they could be installed inboard and still use the rail for other things. I also made a rail mount for the outboard out of 1" board with a stainless cap.

I am still undecided on the lifting tackle. Some use a boom vang with fidle blocks with cam clamp on the top one and others use a double or triple block with cam clamp located on the davits.
Still looking at the choices.
