Thanks, Abe.. I knew I'd seen that number somewhere but I couldn't remember where.. the 3/16 is the loaded dimension.. Best way to determine is to make a 3/16 by 3/16 wood "gauge".. that way if it passes through the space, the mount is OK.. It is really hard to measure that space accurately with everything in place..

Correct, measured under compression (installed). Great tip on how to measure the space, will make it a lot easier, thanks!

How many hours did the mounts have on them?

Abaragones, thanks for the dimension. So >=3/16" between ^ and top plate.

Claude, when you changed your mount using scissor jack to lift, do you lift the whole engine from all 4 mounts at one go? Do you place the jack under the oil pan cover near center? Thanks for the gauge idea.

Engine Mounts

Ken, I jacked each end, for the front, I jacked on the gearcase where it meets the block.. Changed the fronts then jacked the rear on the back of the oil pan and changed those.. I don't like having a big chunk of iron balanced, so I wanted to keep two mounts touching while messing with the other two.
Also note that there is a bump on the underside of the top plate where the stud is secured.. This will be the nearest point of contact with the lower plate vee ..
Attached picture shows the right front a couple of months ago.. it may have had 1/8" clearance from vee to underside of plate .. Looks better when looking at the end gap between top and bottom plates.

Seeing this thread got me thinking about my mounts and decided to replace mine also while I'm having the strut replaced (ie, need to re-align anyway). Paid $725! for all 4 (total) ouch.

At the risk of hijacking the thread

It seems the old Universal OEM mounts are no longer available and the ones they list look like the Vetus aftermarket ones. At any rate I found these and am wondering if anyone has tried these.

I also found some polymer one, but they were really pricey and I had no data at all on them.

I looked at those pretty hard, Ray.. but then realized that some work would be required to retrofit.. Price was not enough less to make me want to redrill mount plates while the engine is hanging around.. They offer the different stiffness in the different planes like the Yanmar OEM ones do..

Noted. Thanks for info. Just like car stocks/damper, I should be changing these mount by pair or all 4 if need to i.s.o. single.

Went out for a brief overnight this week.. motored about 3 hours.. New mounts are noticeably quieter .. not exactly "night and day" difference, but very nice inside the cabin, especially.. It was time !

I measured my starboard front mount, its 6/16" to 5/16" between ^ and top plate bottom. I guess the mount rubber is still good. Will take it out this weekend to recon it. Its pretty rusted.

Ok, I've removed both starboard mounts. Power bushed them to remove loose rust. Washed with detergant to degrease and clean them. Now preping to spray paint but not sure what to base coat eith if any needed. Should I paint on rust-converter before spray paint? Btw, the gap between ^ and top plate is 3/8". So that means it had many more mileage... I suppose.

Ken, I think rust converter before spray paint is a good idea.. or you could use a "cold galvanizing" paint before the black ..

Now that I installed my recon engine mount, I've a new challenge. One of the lug bolt just cannot be tighten. Its not terribly loose but it just goes round and round. What can I do to fix this without major surgery? Appreicate any suggestions//advise. Thank you.

Since the original OEMs (P/N 300514, with a new Westerbeke P/N of 32013) are no longer available and all of the new mounts are 4" it looks like I am going to have to re-drill holes no matter what I do. Looks like my choices are:

MM-Small-65 rubber - $35.00/each + M12 height adjuster $12.00/eaavproductsinc.com

Bushings, Inc DF-2205-2 Series Dual-Flex Marine and Industrial Engine Mounts, $51 at Go2Marine.com and $45 at http://www.fisheriessupply.com/

Nanni Diesel 970311062 engine mount, price is $98.33; www.waterwaypowercenter.com/

The Thermoboat talk the best story and seem to have the best idea, but it does not appear anyone has any experience with them. :confused:

Ken, TOOTHPICKS.

Really. Take out the lag bolt, stuff some silicone in and take a bunch of toothpicks cut in half, and stuff them in the hole. Wait an hour or so, reinstall the lag bolt.

The reason is the plywood underneath your stringer is probably "tired."
