New crew working out fine

I'll likely I'll have some new crew on BlueJ this season, so I've been doing tryouts. Some run no-so-good. Today went very well. Hell, if it were not for evening commitments we would have stayed out till the wind died. Or we ran out of drink and cheese/crackers. We don't usually race with our asym tacked to the bow, but it makes for a very nice way to reach around the lake with minimum fuss.

Quite a hat indeed.

All three of us are the same age; that's a novel thing for me who normally has a crew of younger HS and college-age racers. So we all knew he same songs on the stereo. We had an absolute blast.

.
Seems like every time I wear my favorite cap sailing, it likes to go for its own sail. Maybe I'm looking up too much. Does make for a nice MOB drill though.

Then you might like one of these.

Indeed. And good sailors as well. Both are products of the WYC crew program. Over 1/2 the members at WYC are in fact 'crew' members; sailors that don't own boats but crew. Most are brought to the club by friends and we teach them how to sail. She was out with us last weekend in a snacktician role; this was the first time Sharon (hat girl) was on the BlueJ in an active capacity. Its fun to watch people sail and be able to tell what fleet (and often what boat!) they were primarily trained on by the way they do things. She came from the Sonar fleet, so she fit in just fine on BlueJ. The boats have similar rigs and playbooks.

I'm with JSG. How does she balance that white 'mast' on her cap?
LOL I didn't see that. It's a special antenna that we have our snacktician wear when the skipper is out of the cockpit. It helps them sense when he needs a beer. When we both are in the cockpit we're in range and no special antenna is needed. If you look at the pictures post from last weekend, I was never without a beer. You can't coach that.

In regards to the music selection comments... Call me crazy, but Standing Order #1 on my boat "NO JIMMY BUFFET"...
Sorry, I just can't do it.
Jack, I'm probably just a few years younger but I'd bet we'd agree on music, my favorite station is pre-set; All Classic rock, all the time, no exceptions. I like 'some' new rock too, but the majority of it is a whiny, cry baby beating... Also, any Hipster that starts a statement about music by saying 'You've probably never heard of this band' gets punched in the face before they get the next word past their craft-beer soaked handle-bar moustache. For the follow on statement "I've been listening to them since before they went mainstream"... same rule applies.

Music? Horses for courses. We pick what suits. From 33,000 songs on the ipod.

For energy-on cruising its often electronica tinged, Moby, Massive Attack, M83, Of Monsters and Men, EBTG, etc

For chill cruising often singer-songwriters, David Gray, Dave Matthews, Damien Rice, Van Morrison etc.

For a wind up to race it can only be AC/AC, THUNDERSTRUCK. Accept no substitutes.

But lately on Lake Minnetonka it has been a lot of Minneapolis royalty; Prince Rogers Nelson.
