That is a beautiful boat. The picture shows a support for a cover over the boat. If you are going to leave it for the winter ask if there is a cover to go with it and get the cover on the boat. That will likely require a trip up to MA. Even if there isn't a cover, make the trip and stop at a hardware store to get a tarp. A cheap blue tarp will last one winter if tied down and supported properly.

My ideal solution would be to wait until spring, spend a bit of time getting the boat ready then take the summer to sail South. But if you are a working stiff like me, you won't have the time to do that so you should look into truck transport. You might as well move it South now rather than subject the boat to another MA winter. Shop around a bit for transport companies. When I moved my boat about a year ago I made a list of 6 companies and found a fairly wide range of prices. One of the most affordable (but not the absolute cheapest) seemed to be very knowledgeable guy who was familiar with the "from" and "to" harbours. The move went very well, on time, no drama. Not much help to you since this is in Canada but the point is, more expensive is not always the best choice.

Oh, and I'm sure the widow has no use for the jack stands so try to bring those with you if they are in good condition.

Don't give up on the engine yet, it may be recoverable. A woman I follow on Instagram with an Islander Freeport 36 had a seized Perkins 4-108 that had sat unused in the water for several years before she bought it. She kept working at the injectors with anti-seize compound and finally got them out after a couple of weeks then managed to free up the engine and got it running. The injectors probably need to be serviced, take them to a diesel mechanic while they are out.

It'll be cheaper in the end to just have it trucked down to you.

I understand it's not as sexy an adventure and I don't want to throw water on your parade but a boat that has sat for that long and an engine that may not run at all right now it may be more of an adventure than you want or need.

Small Diesel engines are amazingly simple to rebuild. Injector pumps and injectors require specialized tools and are better farmed out but everything else is easy. Don’t give up on it, maybe a little scary to get started but rewarding to complete.

thanks for the vote of hope DArcy. doesn't hurt to be hopeful. I have an outboard bracket-brand new and an 8hp high thrust extra long shaft yamaha 4 stroke that would push it probably 3-4kts if it comes to that? I know I am a dreamer, my fault, but thought it would be nice to take a couple weeks of and sail boat south to ? then another couple weeks in fall around Chesapeake and south, etc. There is a lot of logistics and decisions going on right now. The widow is starting to sound upset or panicked as well about getting it out of her yard asap! I did just now get a call back from certified sales and they will email me a quote? But not available until mid-late January. thanks everyone, I am breaking a sweat with anxiety.

All things considered, your cheapest option is probably finding a boat transport company to bring it all the way to Florida. Trucking to NC sounds intriguing but make sure you give yourself a few weeks in NC to get the boat ready to go. Even that is really pushing it, could be a couple months to get it ready since you bought the boat sight unseen. You really have no idea what condition it's in, how complete the rig is even, the engine is a really big question.
There are a lot of boat transport companies out there. Hopefully you can find one that can accommodate you on a short schedule.
The boat isn't all that big. You may even be able to rent/borrow/buy a trailer then rent/borrow a pickup truck to tow it. You will need a crane at the pick up sight and talk to the yard at the drop off for unloading. Sailboatdata.com says the boat is 9,500 lbs. That's towable with an F150 even adding a couple thousand pounds for trailer and gear. I know there are guys around here that rent out their trailers. Check Craigs List or Facebook for boat trailer rentals or call around to marinas and clubs.

thanks again Darcy. The boat is 9500lbs, the length is 33.4 ft long including bow sprit, the beam is 10ft 3inches. I think that legal tow without special permit is 8 ft wide? I didn't know an f150 has a 10-12k tow rating? have to check into that? Maybe a fifth wheel bed mount on a dually truck? the thing is I don't have a lot of time to search all over. Was hoping someone on here has the offer or answer to my problem. I would think with Covid19 and all someone could need the work and jump at the chance to make some $.

time is running out! just received a call from the ebay listing company. the owner is afraid I will not be able to pick up the vessel. I have to call them later today and tell them my plans to transport the vessel or they will probably relist it? And may keep my money, i don't know. the listing says I have 7 days from closing auction. That was Wednesday 12/02/2020 at 3PM ET. I have to work another hour and drive home another hour and call them, no time to desperately find a transporter/destination. The listing agent said I needed to have made the arrangements before bidding? Or, have the means to transport vessel on my own. Who has a rig setting around but a trucker or hauler? So, dreams come and dreams go I guess. I am crushed. Knots in the pit of my stomach, emotionally exhausted. I have been looking for "the boat" for so long, find it, actually buy it at a great price, to then have it evaporate like it never was. thank you all for your kind words, and sage advise, and well wishers. A greta bunch.

Relax. What is the seller going to do if you can’t pick up the boat? Re-list it? So what! She sold it to you because she couldn’t sell it to anyone else. Tell her she has a buyer and if she doesn’t allow you time to arrange pick up, she doesn’t have a buyer.
I think shipping is around $2/ Mile. So at least $2500 + prep and de- prep on arrival. Not to mention launch and storage fees. Try Skipper Shipper in Stuart Fl.
I can tell you that Indian Town isn’t that cheap. I won’t quote prices from memory but I was surprised.
I‘m not expert in weather but I really don’t like the idea of anchoring the boat somewhere on the Intercoastal. Winter and Spring storms are viscous and your boat would be at risk. Search forums for thread from Rt. 80 / Tighbee (?) Island.
Shipping it while expensive will cost less than driving it down unless you have a tolerance for discomfort or have a lot of time.
We brought a boat from Fl to LI last June. So much easier trip than the other way.

Wow, a lot of logistical issues and a tight timeline to boot. I would think a local boat mover would be looking for work now that hauling season is drawing to a close. Perhaps a local operator could move your boat to a yard for temporary storage until the long haul company can pick it up. The only Boston area boat mover I know is based in the South Shore, in Quincy. He might know of a yard available in his area, and could run up to Ipswich to get your boat. Continental Marine is the company, and Paul Griffith is the owner, and has hauled my boat in the past. Maybe give him a call?

The selling company on EBAY is itsdonated. They have been nice up until the owner called and was concerned that I may not be able to remove the boat. Now they are getting stern with me, haing me call them at 2000 ET to discuss. I think they are going to cancel the transaction? They state have 24 hours to pay deposit (I paid within 5 mins) then I am supposed to pay balance within 3 days of invoice ( I paid as soon as I got the invoice-like an hour after I paid deposit) The auction ended at 1500ET and was all paid in full by 1630ET (4:30 PM) I had to work 12 hours yesterday and today but called the owner from work anyway to get info and ask if possible to store boat at presnt location over winter and who or whom moved the boat in the past. At first she said she didn't know but later told me of two local outfits that have moved the boat in the past, and she offered to call or and go by and ask Andrew (Andy) if they had room and could do it. He did'nt answer phone call as she predicted and talked to yard guy regarding available storage space-FULL. After that she called me sort of in a panic, stating I really need this boat out of here, and all the extra stuff she has for the boat. She even said why don't I ask my Dentist brother for the money. I told her I would not do that, he fixed my mouth for free last year. I told her earlier that I did'nt want to spend 5k to move the boat, not that I did'nt have it. But, she be worried. So I have called Itsdonated at the prescribed time, no answer, left voice message for return call. its 2025 and nothing. I won't be ale to sleep tonight without hearing back. sucks! thanks Tom I will call your suggested Continental Marine in the morning if I am still in the running. why is everything so hard.

update: finally got thru to the selling company. I was berated and threatened. Owner stated that she had no confidence that I was going to move the boat. The selling company told me that they got many people waiting in the wing to come and get the boat right now! Lots of outfits that sell the different parts of the boat that is, masts, steering wheels, lead from the keel, sails, etc. And that the time to remove the boat is now due to impending northern weather that wont allow removal in the near future. I told him that I was trying very hard to contact a transport company for quotes and a storage facility somewhere, anywhere but have so far not spoken to one individual but left my contact info and voicemail on their recordings. I was given until Monday to have a plan in place to move boat ASAP. This has been so stressful that I am besides myself. I am thinking of just stepping down and forget the whole thing. Let them cut up and part off this glorious sailboat. On top of that in the add they state that engine quit working 6 years ago, but that the owner continues to sail the boat without power. But, when I mentioned it to the widow of the owner she said "what, I never said that" the motor was running when we parked it 7-8 years ago and my late husband developed dementia and the boat has sat for a long long time. I like that the motor was running when put up, but not that the boat wasn't sailed or maintained for a "long, long" time. Misrepresentation. So I will still try to contact the suggested movers starting Saturday morning, but the whole thing is tainted now and giving me pause and a bad taste in my mouth. Thanks for all the information and comments. Especially to "the family", LOL

I note that in the pic the boat is in stream of being covered for the winter. Did the PO die before launching this year? If so, you need to know the extent of his commissioning. Put aside all the transport concerns and focus on the coming winter. We have a blizzard in the forecast for today up here... That boat is only 75 miles south of us. So, being that you are in FLA and MA has strict 10day quarantine rules, you need to find someone to winterize the engine, drain any water in tanks, pump the bilge and take of the batteries ( if necessary). Then get the boat wrapped.. Either with the remains of what is in place of have it shrink wrapped. Don't waste time. Once any lines freeze there will be hell to pay...
