I have recently noticed my new 1996 Catalina 320 has a list to port of about 2 - 5 degrees. Is this common for these boats?

I would guess there is too much weight on on the port side. Is your holding tank full? Is your inflatable in the port Lazerette along with your outboard?

Port List

Mike Many Catalinas have port ist, most notably our C34s. We move our traveller over to starboard which seems to even things out. The previous response also makes a very good point, although once we get yup to these sized boats, stuff "downstairs" should have THAT much of an effect. Water tanks, batteries and the 57 "D" cell batteries you can't find generally don't do too much. Just think of it as a neat built-in feature from Woodland Hills!!! Try the link below and use the search engine "port list" (search exact phrase).

Weight is going to be the cause of your list. Is the galley, head, tankage all on the port side? If there is an abundant amount of equipment on the port side, balance the starboard side out with anchor chain, canned food, etc. LaDonna

C320 portside listing

On the C320 the batteries, head, fuel tank & holding tank are all on the starboard side. There isn't a lot of stuff located on the port side -- just the galley, refrigeration, and A/C charger. Water tankage is more or less along the centerline (but aft tank is more to the starboard). Ditto for the engine/transmission, anchor & rode. So, that can't be the reason for a 3-5 deg port list. My C320 sits dead even along the waterline stripe all the way around. With an 11,700 lb (unloaded) displacement, plus a full load of fuel & water, it would take an awful lot of heavy gear located high and to the port side to create a turning moment able to give that much static list. I'd ask if you actually measured that much list with an inclinometer? Or is it just observed with reference to the waterline striping? It could be something crazy/simple as a misplaced waterline striping! If not, then I think only a serious conversation with a Catalina rep (new boat still under warranty?), or with a qualified surveyer, is in order. Could be something like a keel out of alignment. --Ron s/v Lady Jane
