Need more info. By "freshwater holding tank", do you mean the water tank that pumps freshwater to the sink? Or the waste holding tank that holds what comes out of the head? What year is the boat? If changes have been made by a prior owner, nobody can give you advice on where to find things, except that PO. Older boats didn't have waste holding tanks as standard. Catalina made a lot of other changes/improvements over the years, so the age of your boat is critical. I've got an outboard on my '74, so can't tell you specifically where to find the A4 cooling inlet thru-hull. (I'd expect THAT would be still in the place Catalina put it originally.) You might call Catalina in Woodland Hills, CA. I'm frequently amazed at the info they can provide on boats built up to 30 years ago.

The thru hull for the A-4 should be on the hull about half way down the engine on the starboard side. The best way to reach it is to climb head first into the quarter berth, open the hatch panel (pull up, then out, then down) and peer down inside. Take a flashlight. Lets hope you have a proper thru hull and seacock. If not you probably have a "volcano" thru hull and a gate valve which you should replace as soon as she is next out of the water. The gate valve will have a round handle on it like on the faucet for a garden hose. Replace all the gate valves with thru hulls and seacocks (not ball valves). For the holding tank you will have to just follow the plumbing. Since these were owner installed there's no telling where they are plumbed except that one hose will run from the head to the holding tank, probably through a "Y" valve and the other hose will run from the tank to a deck pump out fitting. If you meant the fresh water tank then you will still have to follow the plumbing but on TASHTEGO there was a foot pump low down on the bulkhead under the sink. The hose will run from the tank to the pump then up to the sink faucet. If you have a faucet with a pump handle there won't be a foot pump and the hose will run directly from the tank to the faucet.
