Our smelly fresh water tanks need to be emptied and flushed. We've been pumping the contents out through the galley faucet but it takes forever. During the process the aerator has to be cleaned very frequently verifying the gunkiness of the tanks. Does anyone know a better way to keep the tanks clean and/or empty them when necessary?

try this

Try to attach a hose to the faucet and lead it in the cockpit. Remove the aireator and use the sink in the head and/or the showerhead to pump the tanks dry. You could always use that water to wash out the bilge or the holdingtank.

Use a hand pump

I almost burned out my water pump emptying out the water tanks. Then it suddenly occured to me...why not open the cap on the water tanks and pump them out into a bucket using a small hand pump? I worked great!

Also Wet Vac

When there's not much water left, a wet vac does a great job of getting rid of any "crud" or debris in the tank.
