Has anyone ever replaced the gasket on the companionway hatch on a Cataliina 27 (1976 vintage)? I am wondering where to find the part (I'm not sure that it's called a gasket, but its the rubber strip attached to the forwardside underside of the sliding companionway hatch) and any advice on how to do that project. It appears to me that I need to remove the facing wood trim below the hatch on the cockpit side and slide the hatch completely off.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Steve

I did my 71' If its a plastic "J" trim about 3/4" on the bottom ant 5/16" on the top, and 1/4" id, made of vinyl plastic, I got it a Home Depot, its actually a bath panel mold found in the molding section. 1-8' does it. If the trac is fairly clean, slide the old one out by gripping with some needle nose pliers. and slide the new ones right in. If it needs cleaning. Loosen up one side of the teak slide molding trac, look for the one that is less straight. Mark the location first and the cover comes right off.

Thanks, but a question.

Thanks, this is very helpful and I had not, but should have, thought of the hatch being removed via the slide molding track. The question I have left is what do you mean by "the one that is less straight" and why "mark the location".

Thanks again,
Steve Harris

Re: Thanks, but a question.

Over the years they can move some even on their own. Stand in your cockpit and sight them both. Look for the one that needs more attention ,or will aid the operation of the hatch. Their needs to be some play for easy operation. but not so much that if its on one side, and you standing on it it wont break the new molding or come out of the track all together
