Need some help on checking fuel pickup for screen

Hi all:
I would like to check my fuel pickups for screen on my 2007 44 DS. Enclosed is a picture of what they look like. When I look at the tank, which is plastic, I see only the top of the pickup and a large nut on the threads. So do I loosen the nut and it will come out? Or is there a threaded boss on the inside of the tank? The nut is flush to the tank outer surface

It screws right out of the tank. Leave the valve or fitting in until you break it loose in order to avoid deforming the opening in the aluminum fitting. I just did my 410 last month. There was no screen. I did find plastic shavings from tank fitting install between the pickup tube and the shut off valve and also in the 90 degree fitting going into the racor from the tank.

Hey Scott and thanks for you very helpful post. The pickups screw off just as you said, so I was able to inspect them. Mine have screens on them but they were perfectly 100 % clean. I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem where my generator stops suddenly.

My previous experience with screens on the pick up were similar. The engine would stop the junk would fall off the screen and the engine would run again until enough stuff collected on the screen. Did you remove the screen? Did that help? I always remove them. You must have a filter prior to the genset right?
I most recently found the fittings on the tank side of the racor nearly plugged thats another possibility...

Well, my latest "fix" was to tighten all the connectors on Panda's "temperature switches" on the Kabota which are supposed to shut it down for over temp. Seems ok. Pretty sure its not a fuel problem. We'll see. Thanks for your help.

Would you not get a light on the panel for over temp? My Panda panel has several warning lights associated with shutdown including temp.

One would think so but I'm thinking there is something in the logic that is shutting down the engine. I know for sure the temp switch on the rear bearing is bad and indeed it lights the over temp light on the left end of the panel. But I'm thinking there is an intermittent problem somewhere that shuts it down and right now I'm focused on the over temp switches. I've replaced all the relays and the shut off solenoid. Not much else to replace.

Does it restart right away? I had a problem with my Panda 4200 where the fuel pump relay was not seating right and would cut out. Can you jump the switches out for testing purposes?
