Hunter 27" 1981 Hunter-Shole Draft Charleston, SC
Hi I am a new member. I am new to all things sailing. Learning as I go. I just acquired my first Hunter Sailboat-27' Year 1981-Shole Draft. While trying to access the rudder condition, the end result was there is no rudder left. Took days to free it and drop the metal pole down and then bring it up. Planning on building a new rudder with foam but Hunter Marine will not tell us the dimensions of the rudder. hey say they do not have that information anymore since they went out of business and under a new company. Is there anyone out there that owns the same model or has that information. Can anyone tell me the correct dimensions of this model rudder. I would be very thankful. Have a great day.

In case you hadn't found it, there is a replacement rudder available for the 1981 27:

Item 805107

Marlow-Hunter has some of the old drawings available but many were either lost over the years or filed away in dusty boxes... literally. Anyway, welcome to the forum and congrats on your new (to you) boat!

Oday 27 Oak Orchard
Welcome aboard Megan. Get ready for the most raucous bunch of scalawags imaginable giving lots and lots of good advise and options. If you can get the right rudder through SBO go for it. The prices are fantastic. I am getting a new one for my Oday 27 through Rudder Craft. These are a high performance rudders made from Polyethylene as opposed to glass and foam. Somewhat pricey at $1488 but Foss Foam couldn't find the mold. Learned much right here on one thread about my particular rudder. It's an oddball to say the least. Even the Oday guru Rudy couldn't identify which rudder went on which 27. Hopefully you won't go through all the same convolutions. Here is their link if you have to go that way: www.RudderCraft.com and ask for Richard Warren.
