Need Help Refitting mid-1980s GOIOT Steering System

Picking up this discussion on a related matter (rather than opening up a new one):

I want to restore the Marco Polo BEN compass and could use guidance on 2 things: (1) what's the nest way to polish the bubble glass that appears to be a bit cloudy? (2) There's an air bubble inside the compass... how do I go about adding fluid to top off the compass and eliminate it, and what sort of fluid should I use?

Can't help with that brand of compass regarding the refill, but I've used a good multi-step headlight clearing system (Sylvania?) with excellent results on fogged Plastimo compass globes.

With three progressive sand papers, cream, and the special lens solvent. I was amazed how well it worked.
