ST1000?

Wow... and I still haven't got my ST1000 hooked up. One came with my boat but no hardware. It is wired, if only hanging in the cabin, and the unit works. I just haven't figured out what mounting hardware I need. The O'Day 222 does not have a level surface anywhere. I figured on mounting on the combing but not sure of the rise to the tiller. If anyone has done this installation I could use a few pointers.

ST1000 on O'Day 22

You probably have one part already installed, and just didn't recoginize it. The rod on the back of the unit drops into a brass socket. On mine, I put it on the seat. I bet you'll see a small brass hole on yours as well. I've seen other O'Days, and boats that are similar to them, with the auto tiller mounted there. On my O'Day 25, to make keep mine level, I needed to buy a bracket to put the pin on that the other end hooks to. If yours is mounted on the seat, you'll need that as well. Here's a link with the parts you may need. http://www.raymarine.com/raymarine/RelatedProductParts.asp?site=1&section=2&page=87&ppid=193

Update on my options....

for the archives......Called Raymarine, left a message and got a call back within 2 hours. Was told that they will sell a refurbished wheel ring and drive motor for $375. Then if my display head needs work, $200 minimum charge. A new ST4000 MKII sells at Defender for $795....so this is a no brainer the way I see it. This is my second encounter with Raymarine customer service and I couldn't be more pleased with their response.

Gary, so glad that it worked out for you...

Chances are the head is still good. You'll know right away once everything gets hooked up. Hopefully, you have access to a wiring diagram on how to wire things together. Please let us know how your sea trial goes. Terry

Gary, WAIT! Did you do the math?

A brand new unit, the latest and greatest, is $220 more than your pieced together, unknown old used stuff. Is that what you want to spend to save $220, at the most? You'll probably save less than that with shipping. And how long is the warranty on your old stuff? $220?

Take Ed's advice on the Simrad unit.

Gary: If you want a high quality unit that will work well on your H'31, consider a new Simrad unit. These units are able to handle a H37C quite well and they can be had for about $800 with a remote. We have had one on our H'31 for several years and have been quite happy with it overall performance. I will give a heads up to a below deck unit, but for the difference in price and a great warranty, you cannot really go wrong with the Simrad 10 or 30 units.
