Billy, you can sail w/ main alone but it won't be very balanced and you'll lose a good third of your performance. A decent used jib is ~ 200. Check at:

Ok, last thing...where the mast mounts to the deck (see pics) the steel plate doesn't appear to be fully secured. Not sure why this is??? Fiberglass appears safe and sound. Should be easy to either tighten down or re-drill holes and fix this right?

Billy, that looks like you should remove the step and investigate. I'll defer to C22 owners about what supports the step underneath but at a minimum, the coring at that point has probably deteriorated and needs to be dug out; dried out; filled with thickened epoxy and redrilled. The step does not normally take a huge amount of side forces so it may have been attached with screws as opposed to thru-bolts and nuts.

Bump. Yep! Got the boat!

Did my first sail solo from Point Judith Pond up the West Pass in the Narragansett Bay to our slip in East Greenwich Cove. A bit rusty considering my last sailing was at the Naval Academy over 10 years ago.

SSW wind 10kts the whole way which was a nice stern breeze. Only motored for about an hour to get in and out of port. Trip was 26nmi in 7hrs. I was humming around 3.5 to 4kts most of the bay but picked up to 5kts near the end.

Can't wait to enjoy the rest of the summer. Planning on Newport and maybe Block Island. Any suggestions?

Thanks all for your help. Pics attached of my cruise.
