removehtml]On this cold and snowy winter day, I have been planning for a Spring trip down the length of the east coast (on the outside) from New England to Florida. While looking at NOAA chart #11544, I saw a symbol that I've never seen before, and couldn't find on NOAA chart #1, Chapman's, Annapolis Book..., or the Maptech site. The symbol looks like the Greek symbol for "female" upside down, sitting in an open trapezoidal pan. There are 41 of these symbols arranged in a grid 2 miles offshore of the entrance to Beaufort, NC. Does anybody know what this symbol represents? NOAA ENC chart #11544 is available for download from the NOAA website if anybody's really curious.
