My muffler exploded

Going down to run the engine after a particularly cold week, I started the 25XP on my C30. Before water could run out the exhaust pipe I heard a Blam!. One side of the muffler was blown out. I think that water froze in the exhaust pipe and the back pressure caused the muffler to rip apart.Question: What is it like to remove and repair the thing?

My muffler seperated from the floor of the boat!

I had a very similar experience last weekend. Engine wouldn't start. Drained the muffler. It started on the next crank. No exhaust or water out the back. Loud pop. I go in and find that the muffler has seperated itself from the floor. Not a jagged, fiberglass ripping seperation, just looks like it popped of the floor. It looks like mine will seat back in place and could be sealed along the floor, but I'm not sure. I can't imagine the entire exhaust line being frozen (is there really that much water in there to freeze??)so that water and exhaust wouldn't pass though, but maybe there is a tight spot that would allow total blockage. I'll be interested to see if anyone has seen this before and what the solution is. I did note that some of the C30 literature indicated that I could have left the drain valve open. Maybe this would have prevented the pressure build up. Who knows. Good luck. CTC

Figured it out

I've pulled the muffler out and found that it is anchored to the floor of the boat by four screws. I've emailed Catalina for the cost of a replacement unit. I also called our local fiberglass repair group -- like when you ding the nose of your boat in a race. They can fix it for me and I'll reinstall it. I'm satisfied that I had freezing somewhere in the exhaust line rather than in the muffler itself.
