Before we head out on this summers extended cruise, the nonskid in our cockpit needed renewal. I'd looked at several options before settling on Kiwigrip.
I gave it a go today starting on a small area to get a feel for the product. If you've never used it, here are a few tips.
Despite it apparent thickness, I found it a bit runny. It's deceiving because I expected it to have a mayonnaise-like consistency, but I feels thinner than that. No big deal, but it will spatter off the roller.
I had purchased the special Kiwigrip roller with the product but while I was at the hardware store having it tinted, I spied some 3 in wide stucco rollers similar to the photo. These rollers have smaller loops so much less 'open'ness' to them. I thought they might produce the degree of grip-i-ness (sorry for the technical jargon) I was looking for.
I had heard horror stories of too much product causing challenges so I applied it with an 1/8" notch plastic spreader. Worked like a charm.
I found that I could actually use the small loop roller to apply the product to areas that I missed with the spreader. The texture created was exactly what I was looking for.
I applied it in the shade, the air temp was about 27 degrees C. No issues with lack of working time. I rolled it to the consistency I wanted and found the roller by itself produced the right texture.
I pulled the tape and the Kiwigrip dried to the touch in about 20 mins.
All in all, very impressed. I've included a side-by-side of old and new and a close up of the texture. Not happy with the new colour but that's easily fixed.
