Peggy, My holding tank appears to be clogged at the outlet. Can't empty it by pump-out or macerator. I have a snake, but there is an elbow at the outlet that may prevent it from reaching the clog. I would hate to have to take the hose off the outlet end. That would be a true mess. I can get at the outlet through the hose from the macerator end. Any suggestions? are you sure that the vent is not clogged? if it is, the pumpout just pulls a vacuum on the tank and not much will come out.

Bill is right...

Unless someone has flushed something they shouldn't have, it's far more likely that your tank vent is clogged than it is that there's a clog in the tank discharge. This time of year especially, blocked tank vents are a very common problem because insects like to build nests in the thru-hull...and because people don't flush 'em out in the fall. The two most likely places for a blockage in the vent are the thru-hull and the connection on the tank. Check both and scrape out with a screwdriver blade or similar instrument. Don't use the toilet again or attempt to pumpout again until you're sure the vent is clear. And in the future, check your vent thru-hulls regularly and backflush 'em each time you pump out and/or wash the boat.
