Just tape holding the wrench as you secured the nuts. Interesting. How tightly were you able to torque the nuts on the inside?

I like the bead of caulk around the bolt head. It looks like water intrusion corroded the old bolts. Did you find any water damage in the hull or original backing plates?

The tape was there just to hold the wrench against the chain plate surface. The adjacent bolt heads provided a spot for the wrench to hold against while I turned the nuts from the inside. The backing plate looks fine. I think the corrosion was just at those three bolt heads.

Nice.
I would be inclined, after the bolts had set a day, go back with a torque wrench, a helper outside so the bolts do not turn, and torque all the nuts the same amount.

I would want equal tension on all the bolts. They are going to get a work-out holding the mast in place. All should be working together.
