As anyone heard of using Murphy Oil Soap on dull top-sides to give them a luster? Do you have a quick remedy other than rubbing compound and "elbow grease?"

I know from experience it works wonders below decks, but I think I heard somewhere that it really stains fiberglass. I don't know that for a fact, and I could be wrong..

Thanks! . . . we are newly in an '84 Hunter 31 and I'm definitely using Murphy below decks. With the amount of wood, it helps trimendously. It was delivery Capt that give me the "hint" about using Murphy Oil Soap above decks. He "swears" by it. I wanted to mention it on this forum as there w=are many years of experience That the forum allows us to tap. I'd be interested in any other remedies for dull upper decks . . . is it only going to be compounding and waxing?

I didn't use on the decks, but for a "dull hull" I was very impressed with Poli-Glow. Again, it was some time ago that I used it, and I think there was a warning against using it on decks as it would turn them into an ice skating rink. But at least it would be a shiny ice skating rink.

Quick and easy remedy? Use wet sand paper. Rubbing compound is nothing but a liquid version of sand paper. Use 800 or 1000 grit with a hand block get it wet and use a circular motion. This will take away surface stains and remove the chalky oxidation. It will actually leave the gel coat shinny and ready to apply a coat of new wax or finisher. A small electric orbital sander will make it even easier. Don't need to use much pressure.
