Ever done it? I want to add one and the engine console seems like the logical place, but space is a bit tight in there. Looking for other ideas.

My boat (06) has one on the port side in the lower pod that has the gauges (athwartship near the hour meter). It was either OEM, or installed right such that it looks original..I can get a pic if you want

A Picture would help

My tachometer is on the port side. Is yours as well? For that reason I did not look that hard over there. I did pick up a West Marine brand weatherproof outlet that is maximum 2" deep, and the engine gauge enclosure is a bit packed.

Thanks for Pictures

Now that I see it, I will have to re-look at mine. It did not seem that spacious, but it looks like it is.

One more thing ...

As I am going to be in my fuse panel messing with things, is there a really good way to mount accessories like these (e.g. some type of bus bar) in the 12vdc distribution panel? This will be my 3rd 12vdc outlet in the boat (one in Nav Panel, one in fwd cabin for tv inverter, and now one in the cockpit). The previous two have separate fuse holders and wires.

Maybe I need to get MaineSail involved as he always has real pretty wiring.

I mounted my 12V receptacle on the stbd side of the cockpit, next to the hatch for the aft cabin. It is out of the weather and still has good access. I used a circuit breaker on the 12V panel that was not being used.

Interesting location

When I put in my autopilot, trying to be like PaulJ, I used up my free breaker.

You could always tie into a CB that has a minimal load on it, assuming the load on the 12v receptacle would also be minimal, such as a hand-held GPS. Plugging in a 12v searchlight would be another matter, though.

Success

Got the 12vdc socket mounted today. Really simple and there was plenty of room. Really nice spot to place it. Thanks all for the suggestion.

12 vdc Outlet installed, but now another question

Has anyone ever purchased a DC breaker for our panel. I just realized the other day as I was wiring the new breaker in and wishing I had a spare breaker to wire it into, that there are two blank spots on my DC breaker panel marked spare. Now I just need to get a new breaker and I am in business.

Re: 12 vdc Outlet installed, but now another question

I needed to replace one shortly after I purchased the boat 10 years ago (new) and I also bought a couple of spares at that time. West Marine carried the same brand breaker that I replaced.

Thanks

Got to remember to look up the numbers. Pretty cold here right now, so I just go to the boat, do what I have to and go back and get warm.

Good to know they are at WM.

Would the correct breaker please stand up?

I am looking to add a breaker. I checked on the boat and the current breaker is an Ampex, 8843 Line, URGF8, 38514-5, Cust P/N C131, Trip Amps 20.3.

At West Marine they have ANCOR Marine CE World Circuit Breakers - White http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wc...toreNum=10109&subdeptNum=10598&classNum=11287

At Defender they have Blue Sea Systems
http://www.defender.com/expanded.jsp?path=-1|328|296553|299262|825439&id=672592

Could not find the Ampex with a google search. I am leaning toward the Blue Sea as they make good stuff by reputation and they are $10.00 cheaper to boot. There are no sizes listed, but they look to be the same size. Thoughts?
