Hi Alan, If you consider the fact that it is just a matter of time before all 2 strokes are outlawed because of pollution laws, you'd probably be better off just going with the 4 stroke and bit the bullet on the additional weight. On the plus side however, you'll have an engine that's cleaner running and much more fuel efficient. Here in California, they've begun severe restrictions on 2 strokes, particularly those in jet skies. Of course older 2 strokes will probably be grandfathered, but they may still restrict where you can legally use them, especially the higher horsepowered engines. Check out the Tohatsu. The horsepower to weight ratio is probably the best on the market right now, with Mercury probably being the worst. Also, when choosing a new engine, go for slightly more horsepower than you think you'll need right now.
