Pearson 36 St Augustine
Hi all. The old Atomic 4 in my Pearson 36 just went sneakers up. Looks like a cooling water leak into a cylinder. Instead of spending a ton of money on a rebuilt one that is becoming more and more rare and harder to maintain and find parts for or spending a ton of install time and money on an inboard diesel replacement, I've decided to try going the Outboard kicker route - I can also use it on my dingy which is a plus.

My question is, what size of outboard should I really be looking at? A boat this big and heavy probably just won't do with the standard 9.9 hp that most owners of 30' and smaller boats can. I've got my eye on a nice, late model Honda 15 hp 4 stroke that someone I know is selling. Is that enough motor? Should I consider a larger 20-25 hp instead? I'm not overly concerned about electrical power generation because I also have a portable gasoline powered generator that will more than make up for all the electrical power needs (battery recharging and running all accessories).

I'm pretty new to sailing so any information is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!
