A Couple Thoughts William

Sounds like you have a good deal with that mooring buoy but here are a couple more thoughts: With the money saved you can justify buying a good inverter. Install it and per Paul's suggestion get one of those "Red Devil" vaccuum cleaners and leave it on the setee. Read "hint". Next, put the waste "can" (or what ever you call it) in the middle of the aisle with a fresh liner in it. Hang a Smokey Bear note on it saying "If you can pack it in, you can pack it out." Just think, nice new inverter - there's nothing so bad there isn't some good! And re Daryl's comment - be careful you don't use up all that fire extinguisher fluid! Oh, and make sure the inverter is turned off if there's an electrical fire!

I dunno, Chris...

I think you should make him aware that you're aware that he's using the boat, and that it's ok as long as he continues to leave no "evidence" behind and is very careful to make sure that no harm could come to your boat. 'Cuz what if he comes aboard to find some problem he should contact you about, but can't without giving it away that he's turned your boat into his private love nest? Or what if he forgets to close a seacock, or turn off something that results in draining your battery or your boat taking on water? Or what if--as someone else suggested--it's NOT him, but a complete stranger? Besides, once he knows that you know, and that it's ok with you, he MIGHT start bringing his own booze and even might a bottle or two for you occasionally. :) IMO, this arrangement needs to be out in the open...maybe even with some "rules."

I don't disagree Peggie

As I said, I wasn't commenting on whether the decision was right or wrong...But, it certainly gets major style points in my book. Personally, I wouldn't ever have to give it a thought...there is no way that The Admiral would suffer such a boarding of Commitment.

just make sure

Just make sure......YOUR wife knows whats going on!...so next time you go to the boat together she doesnt find your buddies girls hair and think YOUR up to something!.......As for him thats up to his conscious...not that I approve at all....but your original deal was a gift of a mooring. It said nothing about anything else. Enjoy the spot I use to live in Newport for 5 years...what a blast enjoy!!

Seems to Me the Wife Will Look at This Different

There all sorts of ways this can go sour. If his wife has any imagination or temper she may sink the boat just to spite everyone involved. Or you could find a bunny rabbit on the Magma Grill. Keep a full bottle and a spare for him and I'd plead ignorance as to who he was bringing aboard. Why do you not think it is his wife who is accompanying him aboard?

Good Thought Jim

Some of my wife’s friends are in dire need of a good time. It would certainly could not hurt their dispositions.

Concluding thoughts

It sounds like your wife is okay with this. The deal is unsurpassed for value. I concur: buy best Scotch for him. Then rent "The Apartment," with Jack Lemmon.

First of all, I know for sure I'd never go for a deal like this. My boats are extensions of my home, and I wouldn't use my home this way either. That said, if you DO decide to just pretend no one knows anything, at a very minimum, I'd lock the boat to the mooring bouy. A person that would board another's boat for personal pleasure might would take it for a "short cruise" as well. I can see the scenario's now - BlondeBunny says "Honey, you said this is your boat, let's take a long afternoon today and go sailing" GenerousBenefactor - "Uh, OK sweetums, whatever you say" Two hours later, when the boat is grounded with keel damage, your insurance company wants to know "Was the boat taken out by the third party with permission, or was it stolen? If it was stolen, have you filed a police report?" All kinds of grief just waiting in the wings.
