Monitoring Holding Tank levels

I recently purchased a 1990 Hunter 30 with what I assume is the original holding tank. I have the following questions.
1. Is there a practical way to gauge/measure/reasonably estimate the level of the holding tank?
2. There is an approximately 6" diameter rubber diaphragm with a pump handle in the port lazarette that appears to be designed to pump the holding tank out thru a valve in the hull of the boat.
a. Is this correct?
b. Does the holding tank drain by gravity if the valve is open?
c. The diaphragm leaks. Any thoughts on replacement parts?

Let's start with the pump first.... Where will be boat be sailed? If on inland waters, it won't matter whether the diaphragm leaks or not because it would be illegal to use the pump. To dump a tank legally, you have to be in open sea at least 3 miles (12 miles on the Gulf side of the FL Keys) from the nearest point on the whole U.S. coastline..and Frisco's a loooooong way from the coast but not too far from nice big lakes if they don't dry up before the drought is over. If you will be in waters where you can use it, knowing the make/model/age is necessary to know what to recommend.

Yes, there is a practical way to gauge/measure/reasonably estimate the level of the holding tank...install a gauge. Which one depends on whether your tank metal or plastic 1990 is right on the cusp of when Hunter switched from aluminum to rotomolded polyethene. Since urine is so corrosive that it's rare for a metal tank to survive more than 10 years, it's unlikely to be original if it's metal. If it is, you'd be smart to replace it with plastic.

Most of the other questions you've asked are questions the PO should be able--and willing!--to answer...ask him! We can help you sort it all out if for some strange reason you can't.

When someone spends so much time trying to help me I would not feel a need to insult them.
the questions that you asked were answered. Btw they seemed like beginner questions to me.
