i have about 30 life vest that I store in the aft locker on my 44 Hunter. Some of them are getting a little smelly. Is there a way of soaking them to get rid of the moldy smell?. I was think of a clorine/water solution. Has anyone tried this or some other way of dealing with this problem?

Soaking them in a vinegar/water solution might do the trick... and probably will be less damaging than using bleach
I had good luck using a very diluted bleach solution in a spray bottle, then misting the life vests. It needed two applications, but that did the trick. You can test this on a small area if you are unsure.

Any strong soap or strong detergent will **dissolve** mold/mildew. These soaps are 'caustic'. Just apply, cover and let soak; then, rinse out. Old fashioned 'lye soap' is still probably the best and was used exclusively for hundreds of years by our 'ancestors' especially for this purpose.
I've never tried it on clothing but Slimy Grimy is great at eliminating algae and mildew on hulls and my deck at home. It's just amazing...
