Oh, me store-bought tether is 76" clip-to-clip. Hanging it over the lifeline clipped to the jackline with the jackline fully stretched out, the other clip touches the water. That's the clip that would be attached to me harness! The water would probably be up to me chest, at least, with me a-dangling from the tether. If the yacht was heeled and moving I'd be fighting to keep me face above water. I doubt survivable for long. Potentially a question mark for generalized "arm-chair theories" on harnesses and tethers when single-handing across oceans.

Oops! I have another (WM) type only 72" clip-to-clip. This one has a nifty "quick-release" snap shackle that you might pull to release while you are fighting for air! Imagine your astonishment seeing the goofy lanyard in your hand while still being dragged! I think the Spinlock built-in cutter is a better idea. I think I'll have a shorter tether made up; 48" to 50" perhaps, for my height.
