Just bought a 1980 Cherubini Hunter last season. One very odd thing. All the dogs for the portlights are missing. Will be replacing the salon ports but would like to find dogs for the other small ports as they are still serviceable. Know that I can get them for 7.00 a piece on the Hunter owners website. Just want to know if anyone could obtain from a salvage.

That is the same price the manufacturer here in Tampa is listing them for. Recommend you get new ones.
Bummer that a PO sent the dogs on a walk-about. But I do know (from the condition of many of the ones on my boat when I bought it) that the original knobs' plastic cracked away from the inner threaded brass bushing.
If you referring to the female knobs, and your are on a budget, another option is 1/4" x 20 stainless steel wing-nuts. Put down a SS washer first between the port plastic and the wing-nut. If all the "knobs" are converted to wing nuts, the overall visual effect isn't bad.

The older ones had metal inserts. They caused the knobs to crack. The newer ones are all plastic and are a lot more serviceable.
Correction to Wing Nut Size
I didn't have a 5/16" bolt handy to compare. Best you make you own determination if you did decide to go the wing nut option.

I make my own when they break, like the others said, out of SS wing nut and washers. When the threaded parts break, those are a little harder- start with a SS bolt the right length, cut the head off, drill it for the pin. You'll definitely need at least a vise and sharp ***** punch and unless your very steady, patient and have a very sharp drill, you'll need a drill press.
