Thread Jack or what? what happened to the mast step bolt?

isn't there a moderator to keep threads on topic? I have comments about Flood, but I am not posting them here.
Since you've used a quote from my post, I'm going to say that I'm sorry to have gotten off course here. But it started to swerve when we started talikng about replacing the teak post with an oak bannister and for some reason we've actually covered a VW Westy Vanagon that's been given a subaru engine. How we got there I don't know but I'd think that it would be rather important to discuss treating that oak post to either prevent or to delay wood rot that may be caused by rain water intrusion, that same issue that caused the lag bolt to rust and fail. Personally, I think that it was most fortunate for this person that the bolt didn't fail while the boat was hard-heeled and the mast was under stress.
Now, I don't think that we should expect the mod to be watching every post. So, If you'd like to contact the moderator then please go ahead.

I too, feel that a discussion of how best to protect a new post, should the OP decide to go that route, is appropriate in this thread. A holistic approach to the initial problem is not a bad thing, IMO .

Oh well. Hijacked? Hmmm, I've often seen posts get to going everywhere, even topics I've started. I don't care, it's generally pretty interesting anyway.
Encapsulate the mast post in acrylic. From walmart. I don't know, yeah Gregg, I read that post/crack about the 22 forum, and it didn't set too well with me either. I have scrounged parts from walmart, Home Depot/Lowes, Northern, Tractor Supply, hardware stores, and liquor stores nation wide. Dug junk out of dumpsters. If I can make it work, I will. My thought on this comment was, was this is probably some "big sailor man", that stands on the pier, with a fat cigar in his mouth, wearing the obligatory white captains hats that are so popular in the tourist traps down here, making fun of a smaller boat. While in he interim, paying the boatyard 85 bucks an hour to work on/clean his boat. I STILL can't say the "yacht" word without gagging a little bit.
Yeah, if I want some entertainment, I as well come to the 22 board. To see how REAL SAILORS work on their boats..

Oh, yeah, don't be so sensitive about the posts going everywhere. Hijacked? What a drama filled word.
