Hey I was wondering whats involved to remove the mast on 83 Oday 28 ft and if it is keel or deck stepped?

It's keel stepped. There is a removable floorboard you can lift up to get access to disconnect the wire connectors. Then disconnect the shrouds, fold the boot up, and have a crane or similar lift it. You need to lift the whole thing out of the cabin before you can rotate it to horizontal so it's about 7 or 8 extra feet of lift. Also there's a set of shims at the cabin top you'll need to store until you re-step it.

Thank you for your response, I have been out of town and had no access to internet! Quick question, I noticed several small rubber wedges (shims?) in the cabin of the boat could they be part of the mast positioning to take up the area between the hole in the deck and the mast circumference? Also my Oday 30 1981 has a ring that mount inside around the mast and bolts go up through the ceiling and I was wondering if this bolted to another ring on top. I guess what I need is a schematic for this 1983- 28 Oday that shows all of the parts I need to step the mast inside the cabin and on the deck above. Where can I get a foot for this mast as it is missing?

The shims do go between the mast and the cabin roof to help hold it firm once it's stepped. From what I remember our 85 28 didn't have any ring on the mast at the cabin roof like you describe. On the top of the deck was a metal ring. The mast had a pin through it that would rest on the ring. The mast also had a rubber boot to cover the gap in the cabin roof. I don't know about the foot - I think the bottom of our mast was just bare. I don't remember what kind of plate it rested on below the cabin floor.
