My boat, Catalina 27 TR came with a whisker pole, however, there is no padeye on the mast. The previous owner used the pole in a way that I am not comfortable with. Does someone know the height above the deck that the padeye should be attached?

Mine is on a track

Tim, I can't give you an expert opinion, but the PO mounted mine on a track on the front of the mast, from about 2 foot above the cabintop to about 4 foot. This was for spinnacker. A whisker pole, if I have it right, is for your gennie or jib when you are sailing downwind. It might be that the best mechanics of the forces involved whould be having the pole at right angles to the mast. So if you are going with just a pad eye, check where the clew is on your principle downwind sail when its out in front of you, and mount the pad so that you get a right angle on the mast.

Padeye

I bought the kit from Catalina Direct. Track, car, bolts, even the drill bit and tap. Price was very reasonable.
