Can anyone tell me how to find access to the mast head light wires, and information on fitting a masthead light on the Capri 22 (I also have a Capri 18 and need the same information. Thanks, All

Thanks for the reply. I noted in the Catalina 22 (not Capri) site that there was a dimple on the cabin roof next to the mast where by drilling you could access the cable for the mast. Is there an already routed cable on the Capri? If not, how in the world do you route the cable?

My 04 came with the Mast Lights. I've seen that description of where to find the wires on the Catalina 22 site as well. It struck me that the location they described seems to resemble where the External Plug for the Mast Lights does attach to the deck on my boat... As such, if you were a betting man you may want to explore the location the Cat 22 site describes to see if the wires are there on your boat as well... Good Luck!
Thanks, everyone, for the excellent replies. Steaming/deck light in LED is a must have. So I'll need at least 4 wires in a connector to the mast. However I still don't know for sure where to drill. Or even if there is a wire pre installed in the fiberglass.

OK. Thanks to all I've got a lead on the best running and deck light and good suggestions on lamping.

Mine is a tall rig. Masthead light is roughly a foot above the spreaders as far as I can tell....
Thank you very much. Looks like there are not too many drawings available and none showing the location of the mast wires in the roof of the cabin close to the mast step. Thanks for the pictures of the steaming light location, that's where I'll place mine when it comes. However, it will only be decorative and not functional until I can locate that wire!....

Mine is on the starboard side as well. However before I purchased my Capri I looked at another and according to this photo its on the Port side. Go Figure
Thanks for the pictures! Since I know the size of the mast step, I can locate the hole. However, yours is a newer boat. To be safe I have written Catalina Yachts for further help. They have referred it to engineering. I will post the answer here when I hear back.
I duplicated on the port side the existing pass through on the starboard side. The pass through goes straight through the metal support between the two posts (MK1 #281). Added water tight connectors.
The wiring harness in the mast needs four conductors:
• steaming light
• anchor light
• deck light (optional)
• ground for all lights
If the deck light is not used, then the fourth conductor can be a second ground. Or a simple three conductor wiring harness could be used. The total current used by all of the lights is well below the rating for the diameter of the conductors, especially if using LED lights.
I would be very concerned if I used Walmart quality LED lamps unless they were from a known reputable manufacturer AND have the same OEM part number. Walmart uses "lowest price". The quality may not stand up to marine use. Be very careful!
